History of Dickson Baptist Church

Dickson was founded on September 4, 1892 at the old Star school location by seven members dedicated to fulfilling God's calling.  Originally the church was named The Baptist Church of Christ at Chaddick.  The town of Chaddick changed its name to Dickson around 1904.  In 1905, the church changed its name to the Baptist Church of Dickson.  The post office in Dickson closed 1906.  Soon, the church began to grow and increase in numbers.  Mrs. Henry Dodd donated over $300 of her own money to purchase the three acres where our church is located today.

During the Great Depression, Dickson began to struggle and was only kept alive by five faithful women.  In 1935, Dickson became a mission of Kelham Ave. Baptist Church, but June 30, 1940, Dickson again became an independent congregation with 70 charter members.  The church grew under the leadership of several faithful men.  Under the leadership of Harvey Albright, the church grew to over 600 in Sunday school.  The new sanctuary was completed in 1954 and the new education building was completed in 1961.

For over 125 years, Dickson has been sharing the gospel to our community.  We are standing like a lamp in the darkness guiding others to the Light of Jesus Christ. Join us this Sunday because Dickson is the "Caring Place".
